What Goes Into Crafting a Sangemarmar Marble Side Table with Intricate Stone Inlay?

Have you ever paused for a moment to wonder how your marble side table functions far more than a mere piece of furniture?

The process isn’t rushed. It begins with choosing the right slab of natural marble, the one that feels solid, balanced, and rich in character. 

Then from there, an artisan sketches the beautiful design directly onto the stone following the ‘Pietra Dura’ craftsmanship. It could be a floral mandala that symbolises peace and harmony or sometimes it could also be a more structured architectural pattern, depending on the inspiration the artisan draws while working with that piece of marble. Either way, the imagination slowly transforms into a real piece of art shaped meticulously by highly skilled hands.

Our artisans create tiny grooves on the surface which serve to secure semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli, jasper, malachite and mother-of-pearl in their proper positions.

Each stone is cut, adjusted, and placed individually. The work requires a hell lot of patience. Once everything is set, the surface is polished again and again until your hand can glide over it without feeling where marble ends and stone begins.
The Sangemarmar marble side table also includes a stand and you’ll often notice a jaali-style carving underneath. These hand-cut lattice panels add detail and depth while keeping the structure sturdy.
