Marble Buddha Statues — Hand-Carved with Stone Inlay

Carving a Buddha is a test of restraint. The face has to convey stillness, and stillness is far harder to cut than expression — a fraction too much at the mouth or brow and the calm is gone. Our carvers work these forms slowly for that reason.

Craft

Each statue is worked from a single block of white marble, with semi-precious stone inlay set into the robes and base on the decorated pieces. The finish is hand-polished rather than machine-buffed, which leaves the surface soft to the eye instead of glassy.

Placement

Meditation corners, entryways, reading nooks, and garden rooms. Tradition places a Buddha figure at or above eye level rather than on the floor, and facing into the room. Practically, a plain wall behind the statue helps — the silhouette is the point, and a busy background eats it.
