Marble Backgammon Sets

Backgammon suits stone inlay better than almost any other game. The board is nothing but triangles in alternating colour — which is precisely what Pietra Dura does best, and why the two traditions meet so naturally.

How it is made

Each point is cut from contrasting stone and set individually into the marble field, then polished flush with the playing surface. Checkers are turned and finished by hand in matching stone.

Playing on it

Stone checkers have satisfying weight and stay put mid-game. The polished surface lets them slide cleanly into position without catching on inlay seams.

Between games

Closed, the board reads as a decorative inlay panel — which means it lives on a table rather than in a cupboard.
