Our Heritage — Pietra Dura

One of the defining pillars of SK Cottage Industries is our mastery of Pietra Dura, also known in India as Pacchikari Inlay Work. This intricate craft was perfected during the Mughal era in the 16th and 17th centuries and famously used to adorn the Taj Mahal’s walls, pillars, tombs, and surfaces with semi-precious stone inlays. At SK Cottage Industries, we proudly carry forward this centuries-old artistic tradition. Our artisans use the same techniques, tools, and precision methods practiced during the Mughal period.

What Makes Pietra Dura Timeless

  • Each stone is individually cut, shaped, and polished by hand.
  • Semi-precious stones like mother of pearl, malachite, lapis lazuli, carnelian, jasper, and turquoise are used.
